  if it’s not broke don’t fix it…
  It has been a while since I updated and am experiencing your new ‘editor’, which is to say the least unfriendly. I don’t think one should need a phd to do simple editings of text or selecting text to create a link, which I haven’t figured out how to do. What a mess. Is it possible to return to old editor. I can’t be the only one complaining about this.

  The new editor is up fot quite some time. You don’t need a phd to type some text. You start typing en your text is placed in a paragraph. You hit enter and you get a new paragraph to continue typing. Even in the old editor you had to select text to create a link.
  You can still use the Classic Block which is the old editor as a new block, https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/ and https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
