  …but no new followers to report, sadly. Are the emails legitimate? Should I be concerned?

  If they have odd outlook.com addresses then they are bogus/spam and WordPress.com are still working on a solution. There have been a number of threads about this issue. The largest is here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/weird-followers/
