New followers connected to old WordPress.com account?
-
Hi,
I recently moved from WordPress.com to WordPress.org and have successfully managed to migrate my existing followers to the new site, however, new subscribers seem to automatically be linked to my old wordpress.com site?
Could anyone walk me through how to fix this problem? Additionally, if I then use the Jetpack migration tool to migrate these new followers, would this overwrite my old followers or just cumulate with the existing follower count on my new wordpress.org site?
Thanks!

Hi @karmentruong,
however, new subscribers seem to automatically be linked to my old wordpress.com site?
It sounds like you’re still getting subscribers from the reader. That should settle down over time, but in the meantime you can re-use the subscriber migration tool as often as needed. The other option is to make the old site private so no one will see it and subscribe. I’d recommend the first option though. :)

Hi @supernovia,
Thanks! So new subscribers should automatically be linked to my new wordpress.org account over time? If not, I’m not really sure how I can get subscribers to my new account from the reader.

@karmentruong not automatically. You can manually move them using the migration tool as often as you’d like.

Ohh, how do I connect my wordpress reader to my new blog? it seems the new followers I am getting are coming from comments I post/posts I like on the reader.

@karmentruong All of your followers will see your site in the reader, however there’s no way to connect a self-hosted installation to the “topics” section of the reader, which is likely where your new followers are coming from.
