New registered domain name for my website.

    I registered a domain name (www.chesterbennett.com) through wordpress about a year or so ago to map to my website/blog hosted by wordpress.com (chesterbennettdotcom.wordpress.com). I would like to change the address of my website. I believe this means I will need to register a new domain and then edit my current mapping have my new domain point my wordpress website/blog.

    Can I do this through wordpress?

    I do not want to keep the old domain name can I just change / transfer the current domain I have registered to something new? I do not need / want to keep the old domain.

    To do that, simply log into your WordPress.com site’s dashboard, click on Store–>Domains, enter the domain you want to switch to in the “add a domain” box and click the “add domain” button. Then follow the instructions that appear to register your domain.

    Once done, go back to Store–>Domains and make sure that the correct domain is set as the primary.

    Finally, you can simply allow the old domain to expire, or I can cancel it for you.
