New Role ~ Moderator, Blog Manager

As a member of an organisation, I am required to give specific permissions to certain members. There are 3 groups of members that will be added to the websites under the name ScholarSites; development, moderation, blogging and editorial. For Developers and Editors, we are completely covered, however, there is no ‘moderator’ and ‘blog manager’ rank. The moderation department on our websites are members who can remove posts and remove members from the website, and the blog managers can remove, add and edit blog-posts. We cannot edit the permissions of these ranks, so we will need to give certain members Administrator, and they will have the permission to edit everything on the website. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to buy the business plan and install the plugin needed to add specific permissions to certain roles, so that’s off the list. We desperately need help editing permissions of certain members, or need new roles which have these specific permissions. It would be nice to have the ability to create new roles and edit permissions from there, but that may not be an option. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I do have quite some time (until September 5th, 2018), so please take your time to reply.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

What you’re requesting would require a change to how user management works in the core WordPress software, and if you opened a Core ticket for this, that team will just tell you this is something you can do with a plugin, so it’s not a change that will be made to Core. So I’m afraid this won’t be possible on WordPress.com either without the use of plugins.
