  I have an exisiting website with another host.
  Can I replace it with a WP site hosted by my current host or does it have to be hosted by WP. Can I have my own URL vs a WP URL

  If you want to use WordPress in a different host, then you can download it from https://wordpress.org/ and install it there.

  If you want to have your site hosted here on WordPress.com, you can do so without the installation hassle.
