  I have a wix website and want to change over to Word Press but it will take quite some time to build the new website. Can I purchase subscription + set up/transfer the domain etc at a later date whilst building the website now? I’m very time poor, so wanting to set up word press bit by bit while my wix account is still live.

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  Hi there,

  Yes you can fully set up your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

  When you first create your site we will assign a staging subdomain you can use to get set up in private under our free plan. When you are ready to “launch” the new site to replace the current one, that is when you will want to “map” or transfer your domain to us, and you can upgrade at that time.

  To get started with a free site be sure to choose the free ‘wordpress.com’ domain option when setting up your site here: https://wordpress.com/start/

  Also once you get the (empty) site set up here, you can use our Wix importer to bring over content from your current site to save you some effort on setup: https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-wix/
