Hello, I just signed up yesterday and am considering switching to wordpress.org.

How much would this cost, and is there an easy way to go about this?

    Thanks!!
    Liz

Where exactly did you sign up? Here at WordPress.com or was it actually at BlueHost as the site address in your title says:

    a bluehost powered website

That site will be using the WordPress.org software when you set it up so no need to switch anything if that’s what you mean. Or do you mean you wish to set up a WordPress.com site. You could map your BlueHost domain to a site here by buying an upgraded WordPress.com plan.
There is no telephone support at WordPress.com so I have added the modlook tag to ask a staff member to reply here and redact your phone number.

    Hi. thanks for your post.

First of all.. I will say I’m a TOTAL newbie. So go gentle ;-)

I did receive an email that said “welcome to wordpress.com” and followed link to log into my blog. I honestly don’t remember if I selected something in particular, but when I went to change my background, fonts, etc I noticed I had limited ability to do so. I would rather be able to customize the site, if I can, without breaking the bank.

Whilst you’re waiting for a member of WordPress.com staff to respond please read the link below carefully about the differences between WordPress.com (where you are now) and the WordPress.org software which is what your BlueHost site (somewhere else) is using.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

  • Hi @egill0607, I’ve redacted the phone number for you. :)

As @themagicrobot mentions, WordPress.com (the service) and WordPress.org (the free software you have at Bluehost) are not quite the same thing. You’d be welcome to set up your site here so we can provide support for you! Or you can also reach out to the community over at https://wordpress.org/support

Also, while things are a bit different between the software and the service, the general steps for setting up a site are similar. You’re welcome to use the articles we have at https://en.support.wordpress.com and https://learn.wordpress.com to get started.
