New WP site has random subdomain name, how to change to root name & without /wp

    I have a WordPress website which I constructed as a subdomain with a random name. To make it go live my current hosting company of 22 years has only been able to point my old website this new subdomain in such a way that the URL shows up as the crazy subdomain name.

    Is there any way to change it so that the URL is back to my root domain name (I hope this is the correct term for what my website’s URL used to be) and also doesn’t have /wp at the end of it.

    I have tried creating a new WordPress website using my root domain name through manually copying everything over from the subdomain website to the newly created one but I could never get it to work properly and finally messed up my cpanel so badly that I had to go to a restore point.

    It looks like your site is using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but is hosted with another webhost.
