Newbie going insane trying to make this work – please help!

    Hi all, I am trying to set up a new photo blog at http://www.passportandpixels.com. I bought the domain name from 1-2-3-reg and am using their hosting and wordpress (.com, I think?) through their site.
    I have chosen the free Parabola theme and have written 5 blog posts with a slider at the top that switches between recent posts (the same ones at the moment as there are only 5!)
    The most pressing issue I’m having right now is that the whole thing is The most pressing problem I am having is that the whole thing is EXCRUCIATINGLY slow! When I am editing, configuring, changing settings etc it takes whole minutes to switch between tabs and frequently times out. It takes ages to load the site too. I have resized all the images to the suggested size so it shouldn’t be the pictures that are slowing it down.
    In addition to that, it’s not displaying properly on any format. On the computer, the posts are not lined up in neat rows – the first row is fine but after that there are big gaps. Meanwhile on the ipad and iphone the image from the first slider photo gets stretched and stays stuck behind the next one as it comes across so you can always see the stretched bottom of the first photo behind the others as they move across. And on the ipad the tagline at the top is also partially hidden while it seems to be ok on the other devices.
    Can anyone help with this? I’m going utterly spare! I also spent about 3 hours yesterday trying to get the site to auto-post to Facebook and Twitter following the instructions about Jetpack. It took forever because nothing seemed to work and it’s SO SLOW!!!!! I’m still not sure I’ve succeeded. I also can’t work out how to get a button that people on the site can click on to subscribe to future posts.
    I am going so mad with this that I am about to give up and switch to a free wix.com site… unless someone can explain to me why I shouldn’t?!!
    Please help… though I can’t promise I will understand your responses as I’ve never done anything like this before… not sure why everyone said WordPress was the best and easiest way to do this…

    Hi @bellaonline79, the slowness sounds like an issue with your host, and the alignment issues may be problems with your theme.

    We can’t really tell because the site isn’t hosted here (you’ve reached the forums for sites hosted here at WordPress.com ; you’re running your own copy of WordPress.org at your host) but your host may be able to help, and you can also either try another theme (make sure it’s responsive) or get in touch with the theme author via their forums on WordPress.org:
