Newbie needs help with blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all,

I started a blog using WordPress.com, and the format needs some repairs. I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to trying to find solutions in the online help pages, so I’d like to find some kind soul who could give me some pointers.

Here is what I would like to do:

    1. Create a new home page that lists all the blog entries chronologically.

    2. Take what is the current home page and change it into the very first blog entry.

    3. Add a links to the home page to my blog template both at the beginning and at the end.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi there,

    1. Create a new home page that lists all the blog entries chronologically.

Blogs by design list blog posts in reverse-chronological order.

If you want to show them in chronological order on the front page, you’ll need to create a static page to set as the front page, and then add the Latest Posts block to that page. Then you can configure that block to show your oldest posts first.

    2. Take what is the current home page and change it into the very first blog entry.

The only way to change a page into a blog entry is to copy the content of the page, and paste it into a new blog post. Then delete the page once you’re done.

    3. Add a links to the home page to my blog template both at the beginning and at the end.

You already have a site menu created, that displays at the top of the page under your site title, so the simplest would be to just add your homepage to the menu, once you’ve created the homepage.

If the homepage will be the only page in your menu, you can then add a navigation block at the bottom of your posts to add the menu there as well:

Or alternatively, just add the link in a text block at the bottom of the page.

Either way, you’ll need to add this manually wherever you want it to appear. Your theme doesn’t have support for a menu at the bottom built in.

Thank you very much. I will attempt to do as you suggest.
