Newly registered domain

  I just registered a domain with the intention of creating a word press site and hosting it on word press. But now when I try to host in on WordPress it says it is not eligible for hosting for another 52 days since it is a ‘newly registered’ domain. I can find no documentation about this issue online. Why can’t I host my new domain on wordpress.com?

  Hi there,

  Please read the error message carefully. It doesn’t say your domain isn’t eligible for hosting here. It says your domain isn’t eligible to transfer here. Those are two completely different things.

  New domains cannot be transferred for 60 days after registration. This is a rule that applies to all domains at all domain providers, and is a fraud prevention measure mandated by ICANN, the organisation that regulates all domain names on the web.

  But you don’t need to transfer the domain to us to host it with us. To host it here all you have to do is add a domain mapping upgrade to your site (free with the plan you already own), and then point the domain to us from the provider where you registered it.
