    hi,

    i am just setting up my blog and did a few test posts using the nishita theme. is there a way to keep all my posts displaying sequentially without them archiving or for viewers to need to click next/previous post? thanks in advance.

    You really don’t want to do that and the reason is that after a few months of posting, your site will slow down to a crawl and no one will wait for it to load, they will just click away and go elsewhere. There are also limits on processor and PHP scripting times, and if you get to that point, your site will not completely load. I expect wordpress.COM has a pretty high limit, but it is not unlimited I’m sure.

    Also, search engines use page loading time as a factor when determining search engine ranking and if your site becomes huge and take a long time to load, they will figuratively toss your site in the basement.

    I always recommend no more than 5 posts per page and possibly even less if you use a lot of images or have very long posts. Alternately you can use the read more tag to shorten posts and then display more of them, but I still recommend around 5. 10 tops.

    One other factor is that many are still on dialup or slower broadband connections (1Mbps or less) and they most definitely will not wait for a huge site to load.

    thank you for your response. i like the ease of just being able to scroll down on people’s blogs, without clicking next/previous. but, yes, i know you are probably right about connection speed being slowed down.

    @multimediame
    thesacredpath has provided good advice. It’s important for bloggers to keep in mind that at least half of all internet users are currently using dial up connections. What that means to us is that half of our visitors are downloading the pages at about 3-4 kilobytes per second. And it’s estimated that if a page has not loaded with within 3- 5 seconds we can stand to lose one third of our visitors. Page loading time is a page ranking factor. That’s why we are all focused on using strategies for reducing page loading time, and what you are proposing is the opposite.
