No notifications for new comments and notification bell no longer appears for Je
-
Hi,
I’m experiencing an issue with WordPress.com notifications for my self-hosted WordPress site connected via Jetpack.
The problem:
New comments on my site no longer appear in the WordPress.com notification center.
In addition, the notification bell in the WordPress admin bar has completely disappeared, so there is no indication of new comments anymore.
However:
- ✅ WooCommerce order notifications still work.
- ✅ Jetpack uptime notifications still work.
- ✅ The site is connected to WordPress.com successfully.
- ✅ Email notifications for comments still work.
- ❌ No WordPress.com notifications for new comments.
The notification bell for comments in the WordPress admin bar is gone.

What I’ve already tried:
- Disconnected and reconnected Jetpack.
- Downgraded Jetpack to an older version.
- Checked all notification settings on WordPress.com.
- Verified that “Comments on my site” notifications are enabled.
- Cleared browser cache and tested in another browser.
- The issue remains exactly the same.
Because the problem persists across different Jetpack versions, I suspect this may be related to the WordPress.com notification service rather than the Jetpack plugin itself.
Has anyone else experienced this recently?
Thanks!

Since your other sync features like WooCommerce orders and Jetpack uptime alerts are still pushing through successfully, your core connection is healthy, meaning this specific comment notification drop is a recognized backend sync bug. The vanishing admin bar notification bell point directly to an authentication disconnect between your self-hosted database on picassia.vn and the WordPress.com master profile data module. To fix this, log into your WordPress.com dashboard, navigate to Settings > Discussion, toggle the notification parameters off and back on to force a metadata refresh, and then go to your site’s server dashboard to flush any persistent object caching (like Redis or Memcached). I have also flagged this thread for Staff / Happiness Engineers so they can check your site’s remote connection endpoint on our backend and manually re-synchronize your comment notification hooks if the cache purge doesn’t immediately bring the admin bell back!

Thanks for your reply.
I already checked the notification settings.
However, I think there may be some confusion between email notifications and WordPress.com notifications.
The options under Settings → Discussion only control email notifications. They do not control the WordPress.com notification center or the notification bell.
The issue I’m reporting is specifically that:
- ❌ New comments no longer appear in the WordPress.com notification center.
- ❌ The notification bell in the WordPress admin bar has disappeared completely.
Meanwhile:
- ✅ WooCommerce order notifications still work.
- ✅ Jetpack uptime notifications still work.
- ✅ My site is still connected to WordPress.com.
So I don’t think toggling the email notification settings would affect this particular issue.
If you’ve already flagged this thread for the Happiness Engineers, I’d really appreciate it if they could check the backend synchronization for my site.
Thank you!

It looks like the notification bell is working again after re-enabling the Notifications module and testing with a new comment. Everything seems to be working now. Thanks so much for your help!
