Hi – I’m new to wordpress and have been tearing my hair out over this! I want to set a static homepage, and have my ‘news’ page for blog posts. I have followed all the guides, but when I go to the ‘reading’ tab there is no option to set the homepage as static, and the ‘your home page displays’ and ‘default posts page’ are both greyed out. There are also no options to set the news page as the blog in ‘pages’. I’ve been at this for a week, 8 hrs a day, trying to figure out even the simplest things – nightmare! I am using the ressonar theme if that info helps – a friend is using the same one and has her blog posts on her news page, no problem? I haven’t yet published, but all the pages are set as ‘public’. I don’t have a premium account – can’t afford it! Can anyone help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Was this the guide you followed?

A homepage is the front door to your site. Using the steps in this guide, you can change your homepage to any page you’ve created. Table of Contents Set the HomepageSet the Homepage from SettingsSet the Homepage from the Pages ScreenSet the Homepage from the CustomizerCustom HomepageEdit HomepageMy Homepage Disappeared!Set a Posts PageSummary Your first step is to decide if you want to us

It looks like you were able to figure things out, as I see Home as the static frontpage and Crow’s Nest as the blog page. Is that how you wanted it set up?

Let me know if you have any other questions or issues.

    Thanks!

Hi – thanks for the reply. Yes, I was able to figure it out :-) I am a total newbie, and didn’t realise the option wouldn’t appear until after I published the pages. Clicked on ‘publish’ and everything appeared! It’s a stiff learning curve!

    Hi there,

Thanks for confirming. Like any powerful tool, it can take some getting used to it. With that in mind you may want to consider checking out our free course on building your own site. You can find that here: https://wordpress.com/learn/courses/create-your-site/

Also you may wish to attend one of our live webinars here which are a great way to see how our tools work by looking over the shoulder of one of our experts as they show you how to work with your site: https://wordpress.com/learn/webinars/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
