No Plugins with '.com' vs. 'wordpress.com' site? What about Google Adwords, etc?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have switched over from a ‘wordpress.com’ site and purchased a ‘com’ WP site and have 2 questions for you please.

Why under Tools do I not have any access to Plugins?

What about using Google Adwords, and posting ads in general on my site?

The reason I paid to go to a ‘.com’ vs. the ‘wordpress.com’ site other than obvious reasons, was for the purposes of using Google Adwords, my affiliate ads, or whatever, and especially to have access to ALL the Tools that I had when I first started on WP back in 2009.

I want to optimize my site and require plugins to do so as far as I know,. Thanks so much for your time and efforts in replying to my queries.

    Cheers!
    Trish

    Hi Trish,

WordPress.com has a lot of built-in features that were inspired by popular plugins, so if you’re looking for a specific feature from a plugin I’d be happy to help you find out if it’s available here at WordPress.com!

Please note that it is not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress.org blogs. If you are wondering how WordPress.com differs from WordPress.org, this support article explains the distinction: WordPress.com and WordPress.org

Regarding advertising, we do have an advertising program called WordAds. Advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com is not allowed. You can read more about our Advertising policy or find out more about WordAds here: http://wordads.co/

Registering a custom domain (yoursite.com rather than yoursite.wordpress.com) doesn’t change the fact that your site is hosted here at WordPress.com (not a self-hosted WordPress.org site). If you’d like, you can move your site to a self-hosted WordPress.org site by following this guide: Moving a Blog

If you have a self-hosted WordPress.org site, you can use plugins and add any advertising you’d like. If you have any other questions or would like further help with this, please let me know!
