Non-Promotional Pricing

I tried asking the AI chat bot, what the non-promotional pricing was. It said it didn’t know.

Currently (I’ll just use one for example):

Premium Package is 3 years, $5.50 (annual plan). So is this a promotional pricing and it will go up to $9 after the three years or is this just an annual discount that will remain the same as long as the account stays with a 3 year plan?

I would assume the prices aren’t promotional period based as the packages do not say something like (example from a different host): Host Gator – $3.75 for 36 months, renews at $10.99/mo

The pricing you see at https://wordpress.com/pricing/ are the prices as they are, they are non-promotional. The crossed-out price you see is the price if you pay monthly.

  • Hi there!

The $5.50/month (for the Premium plan) rate you see is the set annual price when you commit to a 3-year plan, not a temporary promotion. This price remains consistent for the duration of your plan, and after those three years, the renewal price will be based on the current rates at that time, which could change.

If you have any specific goals for your site or features you’re interested in, I’d love to hear more and help ensure you’re on the best plan for your needs!

Well I’m a member of a writing group and they used to use wordpress.com but switched to Wix ($204 a year). So I was seeing what WP.com would be and seems they’d save money switching.

Though I might move my own writers website based on the price.

  • Hello @kevynnp

That’s a great comparison to make! Based on what you’ve shared, your writing group would definitely save money coming back to WordPress.com.

To give you a breakdown, here’s how our pricing stacks up against Wix’s $204/year, all prices exclude taxes:

    On a yearly billing cycle:

    • Personal Plan — $48/year
    • Premium Plan — $96/year

And as mentioned earlier, these aren’t promotional rates. If anything, going with a longer term gets you an even better deal. On a 3-year billing cycle:

    • Personal Plan — $99 every 3 years ($2.75/month)
    • Premium Plan — $198 every 3 years — still under what Wix charges for a single year

So whether your group is looking at the yearly or the 3-year option, both plans come in well below $204. The Personal Plan, in particular, is worth a look if the group’s needs are fairly straightforward.

This also applies if you’re thinking of moving your own writer’s website here, the numbers work out the same way.
