Not all images are migrating

  • Unknown's avatar

I exported a self-hosted WordPress blog and imported into a WordPress hosted blog in December 2017. Recently, I noticed that many of the images in past posts did not migrate over. I have tried re-importing my export file, but it doesn’t seem to be helping. How can I restore these images?

  • Hi there,

Is the old, self-hosted site still online? If not, there is nothing we can do to get back the missing images.

The export file does not contain the images themselves, but only links to them in the old site’s media library that tells our importer where to go fetch them. If those files are no longer available at those links, there is no way to import them.

Are you sure the images did not import at all? Sometimes the images are imported, but the links referencing them in the posts themselves don’t get rewritten correctly during the import process. If the images are actually in the library, but just the links are wrong, then we should be able to fix it for you.

In that case, please provide a link to a post with broken images so I can see an example of the image links being referenced.
