Old WordPress site
-
Perhaps 1 or 2 years ago, I created a custom coded wordpress site. Having not used wordpress since then, I have logged back in looking for it and I can’t find it. I can think of two possible reasons for this:
1. WordPress archives unused sites after some time.
2. My WordPress site was saved locally, and it was lost due to having to re-install Windows 10 at some point. (Does the wordpress editor allow editing of a local copy of a website? It’s been a long time since I have used wordpress and I can’t remember if this is a possibility)
Thanks for you help, I would like to recover my site if possible.

Hi there!
WordPress.com does not delete sites, even if they are unused.
What’s the address of the site you’re trying to find? -
I dont have the old address either!
I did read somewhere on a google search that you can have a local copy of wordpress files, it looks like I must have developed it like that. I will have to have a look and see if I have backed it up to one of my external hard drives, hopefully.

Ah, so then it’s probably the case.
To clear up any further confusion, there is WordPress.com and WordPress.org, and they are two different entities.
We, WordPress.com, are a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.
You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:

Hoping you’ll find your files 🤞.

yes that would have been it, I was using the wordpress.org download and local dashboard etc. If I dont find the files, probably better off starting off from scratch anyway if I am ever going to get serious about getting my site running.
