Only show first paragraph of posts on homepage and in e-mail notifications

I think that my blog, and hence also WordPress as a whole, misses out on a large number of pageviews, because entire posts are shown both on the homepage of a website, and in mail notifications after a mail is sent. I would very much like to change this. Could it be changed, such that my followers will receive a mail notification, which gives the first paragraph of my new post, but then a link in the shape of something like “Read further …”. The same for the homepage; could it be changed such that my homepages shows the posts, but only the first paragraph, and then a link to the entire post?

I think this will greatly increase pageviews, which is, I hope and think, in both our interests.

I hope to hear from you. Thanks in advance!

  • You change what’s sent out via email to an excerpt by choosing “For each article in a feed, show Summary” at Settings -> Reading in your blog’s Dashboard, and do the same for the front page by splitting your post with a More tag: http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

Thanks, that was very helpful! I changed my homepage already! I guess I’ll have to wait until I publish the next post to see whether it now also works for the e-mail notifications. Thanks again!
