Opened a WordPress Account by accident and can’t delete it and I need my username back to open access to my employer’s WordPress account.

    I work for Vallejo, CA TimesHeraldOnline, a newspaper. It gave me a username by which to access its WordPress account, in order to post my stories as a reporter there, as all other employees do. The username is (email visible only to moderators and staff). I inadvertently proceeded incorrectly, and opened an account in WordPress for myself, not knowing what I was doing. I cannot now user the username I was assigned, which must needs conform to all the other TimesHeraldOnline users, to go into its WordPress because WordPress sends me back to my empty account. I want to delete the latter account and then with help from the newspaper, open an account with the username spearce@timesheraldonline to its own WordPress account. I hope I have made myself clear. There is no option to change the username as it must conform for the TimesHeraldOnline profile of usernames. How can I get out of this?

    Hi there,

    I see that the site timesheraldonline.com has on their login page the option to log in with your username and password: https://timesheraldonline.com/wp-login.php

    In this case you will want to choose that option (not the log in with WordPress.com option) and use the email address and password that was given to you by your site admin.

    Hi again,

    After taking a closer look with few folks from our VIP team, it does not appear that an account has been set up for you at timesheraldonline.com under the email address you mentioned.

    Please contact your site admin to confirm they have set up your account correctly. To confirm once again you would log in with the account credentials they give you (the second option on the login screen) and not your WordPress.com account.

    If you wish you can close this account as you will not need it for access on timesheraldonline.com: https://wordpress.com/me/account/close
