Opt-in to email list / Videopress upgrade necessary in wordpress.org?

I am considering shifting over to wordpress.org because I want a powerful opt-in page (to an email list, not to my blog) and I also want video-blogging for free.

I was unclear as to whether I would need to ‘upgrade’ to video-press in order to do video as a wordpress.org. I do not believe this would be the case, however, I wanted to confirm that.

I also wanted to confirm that there were no opt-in widgets that were connected with social media. This would probably create a huge impact on wordpress.com’s success if it had this capacity.

    Any suggestions?

  • We don’t really have anything opt-in except for our subscription widget, though I suppose you could consider the Facebook Like Box and Twitter Follow widgets as opt-in too.

VideoPress is necessary to upload videos to a WordPress.com blog, but not for a WordPress.org blog. However, you can still use VideoPress on a WordPress.org blog, as you’ll still get the player and unlimited bandwidth for the videos.
