Overhauling an old domain

I want to take my old defunct blog and convert it to a completely different purpose. If I purchase the $99 plan, can I rename the domain and dump the old content, or is it better to simply shut this old domain down and start fresh?
If I need to shut the old domain down, will the content go away? (I would prefer that).

Yes, you will be able to choose a custom domain for your site.
If I need to shut the old domain down, will the content go away? (I would prefer that).
I may be able to reset the site to look like the theme demo. Doing so will permanently remove all content and media. If you tell me the URL of the site, I can let you know whether this will be possible.
Deleting a site is permanent and cannot be undone. For this reason, we don’t advise doing so unless you are sure you won’t need the WordPress.com address (example.wordpress.com) in the future.
If you register a custom domain and set it as the primary domain for your site, visitors will see that URL in their address bar instead.

Thank you. The current address is thenurselog.wordpress.com. I don’t mind deleting it. I have copied all the content (which isn’t much) and it has had zero traffic in years. I simply don’t need it anymore.
I would like to rebuild the site as CCAuneAuthor. I run a blog at another address and have learned how to operate wordpress and build SEO. I’d like a clean slate, and didn’t want this old blog out there anymore.
So I need to either delete thenurselog and start fresh, or convert the domain and clear the old data and theme. Which option is better? -

Thanks for the link, I’ll be able to reset your site to look like the Spring Loaded theme demo. This will give you a fresh start. If you would like me to go ahead and do so, just reply to confirm.

It’s possible to change both your username and blog address:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
Both of these actions are permanent. Once you have changed your blog address, you won’t be able to reuse thenurselog.wordpress.com again.
If you want to use thenurselog.wordpress.com again in the future, I’d recommend creating a new site and marking thenurselog.wordpress.com as private.
