  if I connect my owned domain now will I be able to transfer it later?

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  Hi there,

  Yes, many site owners do this actually, where they initially connect to your site here via domain settings (without moving your domain from the current provider) so your site here uses that custom address.   One thing to be aware of, when you purchase one of our upgrade plans the domain transfer is included for free plus once the transfer is complete we add a free year of registration, so you do not have to renew again until the following year.

  With this in mind, you may wish to wait until your domain is close to its renewal date before you transfer. This will save you from having to pay to renew with your current provider, and also net you a little savings as we add a free year of registration on this end.
