P2 Theme – "Add Media" button has disappeared on front page

  • Unknown's avatar

On P2, the “Add Media” button on top right of the writing window has disappeared.
If I go to Appearance->Theme->Customise then the screenshot has the button, but my live page doesn’t.

It must be something in the Settings but I cannot figure it out.

Also the “Reply” link has disappeared.

BTW, it would be good to have the “Add Media” button when one posts a comment

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Thanks for reporting the issue with the Add Media button! I passed along that report to our developers so they can investigate it.

I noticed that the comments are currently disabled on some of your more recent posts, which is why the “Reply” link doesn’t appear on those. Have you made any changes to the settings under Settings > Discussion in the blog’s dashboard recently?

You can re-enable the comments on those posts by bulk editing those posts, as described here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/#bulk-editing-comments

Please let me know if you have any other questions about that.

    Thanks Rachel.
    1. I don’t know what settings change have caused posts not to allow comments by default. Here are my settings at the moment:
    https://acefutures.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/discussion-settings-e280b9-ace-futures-e28094-wordpress.png.
It looks like it is reverted to allowing comments
    2. As I said in my original post, it would be very very helpful if one could add media to comments from the front end. Right now it is very very cumbersome to add media, even from the backend, where the “add media” button is missing. I have to upload the media file, click “edit” to get the url, go to the comment, and add the img url. Very frustrating, or am I missing something?

Yep, I took a look at the blog and I’m seeing the “Reply” link on all of the posts again. If that issue comes back, please let me know so I can investigate it for you.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear in my reply earlier — it looks like there’s a bug that’s preventing the Add Media button from appearing. I reported the issue to our developers so they can investigate why that’s happening.

    Rachel,
Correct me if I am wrong but the “Add Media” button has never been above the Comments window, only above the New Post window.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ah, sorry about that! I misread your reply and thought you were talking about the new post window.

It’s not likely that an Add Media button will be added to the comments window, but our developers have been working on other ways to make it easier to add media to comments. I can’t make any promises about that, but I wanted to let you know that it’s definitely something we’re working on.

    Hi there,

I heard back from our developers about the missing “Add Media” button. To get that button to appear, you’ll need to access your blog using HTTPS at this address:

    https://acefutures.wordpress.com/

(The URL needs to start with https:// instead of http://.)

That will enable the “Add Media” button so you can securely add media to the blog. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
