Page catagories
-
Hi, for over a year I’ve had the ability to organize sidebar pages by catagory. Recently I noticed that it was no longer possible to do this. I read the forum and checked heirachy on the catagory widget but that didn’t fix the problem. I’m not sure what I’m missing or overlooking. Thanks for any help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please paste the URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your username to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We can’t help without that.

There seems to be some confusion here.
Categories means groups of posts or groups of links. Pages couldn’t and cannot be categorized.
Hierarchy means having sub-categories or sub-pages. Checking hierarchy on the Categories widget or the Pages widget results in sub-categories or sub-pages showing up indented under their parent in the sidebar.
Please explain (with specific examples from your blog) what exactly you’re looking for.

Thank you, I’m learning and have a lot more to learn. On the blog, http://www.russianreport.wordpress.com, in column 2 to the right, I have pages (not posts) categorized by topic. You can take a look and see that there are sub pages.
For example there is a section called Come to Russia. Underneath that are indented pages about how to get a visa, work in russia, life in a russian home, etc.
Previously before publishing a page I could assign it to a parent catagory and it would be indented under the proper “parent.” Now that option seems to be gone.

Regarding http://russianreport.wordpress.com/
The WordPress instructions say:
To begin the process, go to Administration > Pages > Add New panel, in the upper right corner of the panel and click the “Page Parent” drop-down menu. The drop-down menu contains a list of all the Pages already created for your site. To turn your current Page into a SubPage, or “Child” of the “Parent” Page, select the appropriate Page from the drop-down menu. If you specify a Parent other than “Main Page (no parent)” from the list, the Page you are now editing will be made a Child of that selected Page. When your Pages are listed, the Child Page will be nested under the Parent Page. The Permalinks of your Pages will also reflect this Page hierarchy.
Sometime ago I had such an option available, but it is no longer there. Have I done something wrong. There doesn’t seem to be a way for me to create Parent pages or Sub pages as it is today.

Volunteers do not have backend access to blogs and cannot apply technical fixes. Only Staff can do that http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

@mendeleyev: The “Parent” dropdown is in the “Attributes” module of the page editor screen. Can you see the Attributes module next to or below the main edit box? If not, click “Screen options” top right to activate it.

Thanks for the help. I found the answer. First you must create a new page and save it as a draft. Then do a QUICK EDIT (not normal edit) and the info needed will be at the bottom of the page (NOT as it is listed in WordPress instructions).
Thanks again for allowing a newbie to learn in your midst.

@mendeleyev: Your solution is just an alternative – it does not run counter to what the WP instructions say. Quick Edit is quicker when you edit a page you have already created. When you create a new page, the page editor is quicker; you just need to have the Attributes module on – see my previous response, also this Support doc:
