Page not loading correctly in Firefox or Safari; back-end unusable in Firefox

I am having a lot of trouble with my site, http://mediatinghistory.wordpress.com. I set it us for a class I am teaching. Sometimes everything loads just fine and I am able to use the site as I designed it. At least 50% of the time, though, it loads without any style, blank white background, maybe some cutoff images, with all menu items listed on top justified to the left. The site becomes ugly and difficult to navigate. I am having this problem on both Firefox and Safari (yes, both are updated, I have checked proxies and disabled plugins). The problem is decidedly worse on Firefox, where I am often unable to use the back-end of the site at all (I had to open it in Safari to even ask this question). Please help! My class starts tomorrow and I would like my students to have a usable website.
