Page Number to Older Post
-
When I try & customize the theme twenty sixteen or twenty sveenteen and scroll to the bottom, it shows 1 2 … 23 (last page number), greyed out left arrow (to go to the the previous page) and right arrow (to go to the next page).
However when I activate and published either themes and scroll to the bottom, it shows me “Older Posts” opposed to page numbers.
Why is it like this?

Hi there,
I’m not able to see the page numbers at the bottom even when I open the Customizer. Those two themes show the Older Posts button at the bottom of the page just like your site does.
Can you please send me a screenshot to better understand your issue? You can use a tool like https://snag.gy/ to quickly grab a screenshot.

Hi there,
I see from your screen shots you’re using the Try & Customize option from Design ->Themes, which shows you a live preview of the theme without actually activating it.
That option shows page numbers on the theme preview, yes, as that’s how themes work by default on the open source version of WordPress.
But all WordPress.com sites have Jetpack’s infinite scroll feature built in, and that feature overrides the page numbers, either auto-loading posts or showing an Older Posts button instead. So on WordPress.com the theme will never actually show page numbers on the posts page.
The theme preview in the Customizer doesn’t have a way of detecting that before the theme is activated, though.
