Pages automatically set a featured image, creating an unwanted duplicate

I have a simple Bio page on my blog: a single image, a paragraph about me, and a list of things I’ve appeared in. My images are hosted on Flickr rather than uploaded to my WordPress media library.

Last night, I noticed the image is being duplicated and I am unable to remove it without deleting the image block, entirely. I have no way of removing the duplicate as it does not show in either the visual or code editors.

I created a new test page with an image block, couple of text blocks, and another image. The problem repeats. Pages appear to be setting an automatic featured image and I cannot find a setting to disable it. Blog posts appear normal. Not sure what else to do, here.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, @jonrevjrp Rebalance, the theme you’re using on your site, is one of our older Classic themes.

If you go into your Customizer>Content Options>Featured Image, do you see the option to automatically display the first image as a featured image? If so, try unchecking that and saving.

Post back here and let us know if you need more help.

Found and unchecked the box. I knew this existed but I long had it unchecked, not sure what enabled it. Issue is now resolved.

    Thank you!

You’re welcome! Glad to hear you resolved this.

Sometimes updates to the platform can cause issues and older themes like Rebalance can be particularly affected. At some point you may wish to consider switching to a block theme.
