paid plans vs free site

  I have several word press sites with domains purchased at bluehost and go daddy. While I am setting up my new site, why do I have to purchase a paid plan?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi –

  A paid plan is needed to use a custom domain on WordPress.com.

  But, I think you might be confusing WordPress.com and WordPress.org. There are 2 different versions of WordPress.

  With WordPress.com, we are a managed environment. Those plan prices include your support, hosting, and all the nitty gritty details that are needed, behind the scenes, to make a successful site.

  WordPress.org is a free, open source, community maintained installation. With that you have to provide a separate host.
