-
Hi,
I canceled my subscription to my site and account. I want to be able to use the domain I registered with wordpress, but it says it’s parked. How can I get it released so that I can use it with another platform? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there,
If you’re wanting to use your domain at a different host, you should never cancel it at your current host – once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.
If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/
For more information on using the domain elsewhere, please see:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/
If you recently registered the domain, you have to wait 60 days before you are able to transfer your domain to a different host, but in the meantime, you can use the domain with your site by pointing the nameservers over to your new host:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/
I’ll be happy to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.
Let me know if you would like for me to try and regain the domain for you.
Thanks!

I’m not worried about someone taking my domain. It’s not a popular one. I just canceled it. I created it last week, so it wouldn’t have been free for transfer for 60 days, so the best option seemed to be to cancel. I just need it to move from parked to available. So do I have to just keep checking the site? It seems like there is something wordpress could do to let go of the site.

Hi there,
Since you cancelled registration within five days of the initial purchase, the domain should be released and eligible again for registration about 5 days after cancellation. So, I would begin checking the status of the domain around that time and feel free to let me know if you don’t see any status change within a week.
Thanks!
