Parked Website Recovery

    I had a wordpress website that I would like to recover. I was hosted on my behalf by a former colleague who will not help with this process. But when I try to get to my site, it says it is parked at GoDaddy. GoDaddy can’t help, but I thought since it was a WordPress site, I can get help from WordPress?

    Hi there,

    Can you please provide the address of the site in question? It’s impossible to help without knowing what site you’re speaking of.

    But if the domain is parked with GoDaddy, it’s likely the site was also hosted with them, in which case you’d have been using the open source WordPress software found on WordPress.org.

    This is something completely different from WordPress.com, and if that’s the case none of your site’s files were ever on our servers. If the site was hosted with GoDaddy its files would have been on their servers, and if they don’t have any backups any more – likely if you’ve let your hosting plan expire – and you didn’t keep your own, then I’m afraid you’re out of luck.

    that is the site that I need help with. I got in touch with GoDaddy support and they told me that it was not hosted with the thought they could see the ‘data’ or some technical term. The gentleman who was hosting it on his account has not been very helpful, so I do not know where he hosted it really. GoDaddy just say they have parked it and it is pending renewal or deletion. I would love to save it, if it can be saved and host it under my account now so I have better control. Thank you very much.

    I’m afraid we won’t be able to help you either.

    That domain has never been connected to any site on WordPress.com, and the only information I have on that domain is the public Whois data that shows the domain is currently pointed to GoDaddy’s servers.

    If the domain was pointed to another hosting provider prior to it being parked at GoDaddy, I’m not able to find any historic data indicating where that was. If GoDaddy themselves don’t have historic data on their end, then only the person who owns that domain will know.
