paying for domain name? WHY?

I have my wordpress domain site hooked to a domain name I purchased through Go Daddy. But now I’m getting emails from wordpress saying “This upgrade replaces your site’s default address of “danielrobinson12.wordpress.com” with the custom domain “danrobinson.us”. Domain mapping coasts $13.00, and is set to expire in 1 day, on May 1 2014. If this upgrade expires, your site will not longer be available at “danrobinson.us” So, why do I need to pay for this when I already have my wordpress blog tied to that address that I paid for through Go Daddy?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • The yearly fee that you pay Godaddy is for registration of your domain name. This is a fee that everyone has to pay if they want to register a domain name, no matter where it is being used.

Domain Mapping is the WordPress.com upgrade that allows you to use an externally registered domain with your WordPress.com site.

Make sense? Let me know if not.
