    Why am I paying $48 now, instead of when renewed, if it’s free the first year?

    The WordPress.com plan isn’t free the first year, only the domain is.

    Hi there!

    If you choose the annual billing of a WordPress.com plan, you’ll be charged for the whole year at the time of purchasing the plan. With our annual plans, you’ll get a free domain registration for the first year.

    From the second year onwards, you’ll need to renew the domain and the plan separately.

    If you start with a monthly plan, the domain registration is not free so you’ll need to pay separately for the domain as well if you want a custom domain.

    If you already own a domain elsewhere, you can map the domain to your WordPress.com site with any of our paid plans. Domain mapping is included with all plans, both annual and monthly.
