  If I’m building a site through WordPress, when do I have to pay? When it goes live? Can I build it first without paying?

  Hi there,

  If you host your site with us on WordPress.com, you only need to pay if you want to purchase one of our optional upgrade plans.

  It costs nothing to host a site with us, and you already have a free site at http://writingbyeric.wordpress.com/

  Specifically in terms of what you need to build a site, the only time you’ll need to pay is if you want to use a premium theme, use the custom design features only available on our Premium plan and up, or install plugins or third party themes, only available on our Business Plans.
