Payment

    Hi there,

I’m planing to start my teaching website. I sell live online classes and more. I’m from Saudi Arabia and I wanted to ask about the payment methods. Can my customers pay using their visa or master cards and I receive the money directly to my bank account? or do I need to have an account like let’s say 2Checkout. Same thing if a customer is from out of the country can he/she pay and the money goes directly to my bank account?

    Thank you

  • Hi there,

For someone to pay and the money to go directly to your bank account, you’d need to build a custom payment system that’s PCI compliant – there are pages and pages of laws and regulations you have to adhere to in terms of security and data storage to do that type of payment processing, and it’s not something that’s possible or allowed on WordPress.com.

The easier way to do this is to use a payment processor like PayPal or Stripe. Those services are already PCI compliant, so they’ll handle the actual charge to someone’s credit card, and then pay out the funds to you, charging a nominal fee for this service.

Such a payment gateway can be integrated into your WordPress site using plugins, and that requires our Business Plan.

We also offer a Simple Payments button that works through PayPal, but if you want to host the classes online so people enroll and take them directly on your site, you’ll need additional plugins, like a learning management plugin (we recommend Sensei), a membership plugin to restrict access only to people who’ve signed up, possibly a subscription plugin if access to a course is for a limited time and you want recurring payments, etc. A payment gateway plugin also just processes payments, so you’ll likely need an ecommerce plugin as well to actually create a “store” where people can browse and buy your courses.
