people cannot register on my website

Hi. i am an administrator and i wanted to test the member registration on my website, therefore i deleted a couple of my users so they could reregister and test the site, but when they try to reregister the error message comes up saying that the email and the user name is already in use … how can i solve this problem? i want the users to be able to reregister again after deleting their accounts. thank you
