Personal paid plan / domain names

I am considering upgrading to a personal plan for one of the free wordpress.com sites that I have, to remove the ads on them. I have several questions:
1. If my free site is, for example, “allfree.wordpress.com”, must the custom domain with the personal plan upgrade necessarily be “allfree.com”? Or could I choose some other domain name (e.g. brandnewname.com)?
2. After the personal plan upgrade (and say I do choose to go with “brandnewname.com”), what happens to “allfree.wordpress.com”? Will someone who goes to that original URL still see the same site, just with no ads? i.e. Will there now be TWO URLs through which someone could access the site, both without ads?
3. If after a few years, I decide to no longer subscribe to a paid plan, will I be able to just go back to the free site “allfree.wordpress.com”? Will anything be lost?
4. If my username is say NAMEABC, and I have a free site “nameabc.wordpress.com” as well as a second free site under the same username which is “allfree.wordpress.com”, is it technically possible for me to upgrade to a paid personal plan for just “allfree.wordpress.com” but select the domain name “nameabc.om” for the “allfree” site?
My apologies for the many questions, and thank you in advance for any help.

1. you can choose whatever custom domain you want, as long it’s available.
2. allfree.wordpress.com just stays online as it is. People can access your site using the custom domain or allfree.wordpress.com
3. yes, your upgraded site can be downgraded to a free site.

For number 2: “allfree.wordpress.com just stays online as it is”, I take it that this will then also be ad-free?
