Personal plan checkout misleading?
-
As I’m checking out for the personal plan at $4, the item in the card reads ‘popdotme/wordpress.com’ I thought I had the understanding that I was allowed a custom domain for my existing url, but the cart has an item that says something I don’t want. Am I confused?
-
Now I’m really confused. I try to log in to WordPress using my credentials, it says I don’t have a site. I log in with my Siteground WordPress kit, and I do have a site, which is also perfectly linked to my custom domain. I knew I had already done this a couple of months ago and that my site existed. Why can’t I log in to my site directly from WordPress?

Hi there, it sounds like your site is using the open source WordPress software rather than being hosted here on WPcom
WPcom (where we are ) and WordPress are separate entities with different documentation and support forums. More information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you are using the Jetpack plugin on your WP site, you do need a WPcom account, but you don’t need a site here. More on Jetpack (including support information) at https://jetpack.com/

For a beginner, would you recommend transferring my domain to WP? How much easier will it make things on me?
Also, I’ve changed my theme within the past 10 minutes, but it still shows the old theme. Is there a lag, if so, how long?
Thanks

Maybe a little more info would help you help me. I had originally wanted to set up an e-commerce site with a connected fulfillment service and woo commerce. I no longer want to do that because I have become a reluctant luddite due to everything on the internet changing every three minutes. Now I would just like a regular blog with a paid theme with good features and customization. I’m still seeing woo commerce on my dashboard menu, not a problem really, I’ve deleted my woo commerce plugins, I’m no longer interested in that type of service. I’m a bit miffed at this point having chosen another free theme, but it doesn’t seem to have taken, and I’m left with everything blank. I deleted all the pages because all the pages were associated with and still appeared like the last theme I was using, ‘storefront.’
-
I really don’t know now if I’m in the right place to be asking these questions, is there actual support available or only on the forums? Maybe a dumb question, but so is it possible to actually change, say, the font or the font size on the headers or subheaders, or are we stuck with only what the installed theme allows? I’m not seeing much in the way of ‘customization.’
-
As justjennifer mentioned, your site uses the open source wordpress.org. Their support is at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/. We can only help with sites running on the wordpress.com platform.
-
Oh good lord I’m woefully inept. Thanks for the point in the right direction. Happy new year!

Thanks @staartmees!

Let’s back up for a minute. Start by reading the support guide I linked to earlier about the differences between WPcom and WP https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ That information will aid you in deciding whether you keep your WP site at SiteGround or move your site to WPcom.
If you decide to move to WPcom, you’ll have access to both free and Premium themes which you can see in our Theme Showcase and depending on what upgrade plan you choose, you’ll be able to edit the CSS of your chosen theme and use a custom domain name on your WPcom site.

https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/I don’t want to flood you with more information right off the get-go, but reading those support guides should help you in making your decision. Let us know if you have more questions after reading those guides.
