Photography website advice

  This isn’t a problem with my blog but as I can’t ask a WordPress employee for advice, I’ve wound up here in hopes that someone can help.

  A friend has a website hosted by 1&1 which doesn’t support what they want and so are looking for alternatives. As WordPress is now catering far better for the photographers market, I hoped people here might be able to tell me if any WordPress themes would cater to their requirements – which are:

  1. A front page which supports a javascript slideshow with url embedding (example – http://www.tonyhowell.co.uk/) Each photo directs the user to a different area of the site.

  2. Template which allows for just one photo to be added without the addition of a gallery on the page, to which links can also be added to other areas of the site (example – http://www.cachet.org.uk/wall-art/)

  3. Separate gallery area.

  My friend owns the Cachet site and is happy with everything bar the front page which doesn’t have any wow factor nor gives any incentive to search the site. Simply put they would like a url embedded slideshow on the front page, which when clicked would take the user to the images stored in the Cachet site subpages to give background on their specialist genres, from which they could then explore other areas of the site.

  1&1 won’t allow access to the root folder and so no images can be uploaded to it, nor does it support the type of javascript slideshow which is used on the Tony Howell site – hence the need to move. Can anyone please recommend a WordPress template which would satisfy the requirements above?

  1) we have several themes with built-in slideshows/carousels, and that’s it. You won’t be able to use external slideshow codes or have them direct to offsite web pages.

  2) yes

  3) yes, look in the Support docs for instructions on Gallery options.
