Photos not populating on my home page theme layout?

I bought the Hatch theme for http://meganhookphotography.wordpress.com/ and am having problems getting photos to appear on my home page in certain spots. I tried switching to another theme, same problem. I’ve tried adding, deleting and even featuring vertical versus horizontal photos as well as photos of different sizes… I can’t figure out why sometimes a photo appears as it should for posts and other times they do not. Help, please.

Hi there – thanks for pointing those out, I see what you mean.
The way Hatch works is that it will attempt to pull the first attached image in your post.
When you’re seeing the light grey box, the issue looks like the first attached image in those posts is “attached” to a post in the Trash, so it can’t display it.
Could you try restoring those posts from the trash and removing the affected images from them?
For example, this image in the Media Library:

If you look at the “Uploaded To” column in the Media Library for this image, you can see that it’s attached to the post “kim + gino.” If you click that link, you’ll see that this post is in the trash:

Kim + Gino is not the post I’m having a problem with though. I did initially – the post pulled in a photo I did not want on the front end (that beer mug & wine glass which is from another wedding – & when I was in the post to edit to delete it, the photo didn’t show there… Some sort of bug – so I deleted the whole post, started a new one.) I just restored Kim + Gino like you said anyway and now I have two Kim + Gino posts.
The three posts that are missing photos aren’t in the trash & never have been (davia + noel, christine + james, a creative walk down the aisle) but are still having this issue.

Right, I understand. However, the image that’s the first one in the Davia & Noel post is this one:
And that appears to be the same image attached to the Kim + Gino post in the trash.
For now I set the duplicate Kim + Gino post to draft status. I see that the img_0648_bw.jpg image is not actually displayed in that post any longer, but it’s still being treated as attached to that post, and not the Davia + Noel one.
Would you mind trying this – could you delete the image in question by clicking the Delete Permanently link here:

Then, re-upload the same image within the Davia + Noel post. I suggest giving it a new file name before uploading, to avoid any confusion.
Let me know if that gets the thumbnail showing on the front page. If so, we’ll move on to the other two missing thumbnails.

Ok deleting the photos and re-uploading them under different names worked. Am I going to have to do this each time?

Glad that worked.
This is only an issue for images that you’d earlier uploaded into posts that were later trashed, such as the first one we looked at.
Just let me know if you need further help.
