Plan upgrade pricing
-
Hi, we’re looking to upgrade our plan to remove ads. Before adding a plan to the cart, we are presented with a $3 monthly upgrade plan (crossed out with $1.33 in its place). But when added to the cart, it is only offered as a $40 annual option for the Personal plan, discounted from $60. We’re assuming this is because we’ve registered a domain and are therefore not eligible for the ‘blogger’ plan, correct?
Here is the pricing explanation: ‘You’re getting a $20 discount off the regular price of the plan ($60), because you already paid for the domain.
The plan and the domain can be renewed together for $60 / year.’
We registered our domain in late August, so it expires in about 6 months. If we purchase this $40 option, will that extend the domain registration to 1 year from today, or 1 additional year from the original renewal date (i.e. August 2020)? And will the cost next year still be $3.33/mo + $18 annual renewal?

Hi –
You’re right. The $20 discount is given because you have already paid for your domain.
That’s for this year, or until your domain comes around for renewal. When going to https://wordpress.com/plans/ you can choose the plan and add it to your site. My suggestion would be to get started with the personal option. It can always be upgraded later if you decide that’s something you want to do.
The blogger plan only comes with a .blog domain. You’ve registered friendsofroxhill.org which is a .org domain. Make sense?
When it comes time to renew all of this next year you’ll be renewing your plan at the full price and the domain for $18.
There’s also no obligation to upgrade the plan. You can continue with the domain as you have for the past two-ish years.
I hope this makes sense, I know it’s a bit confusing. Write back with more questions and I’ll be happy to answer those.
