Please can you help to free my email address from my previous account

  I had a problem with changing my email address, I changed it on my first account magdalenaphotography.wordpress.com in order to use it for my new account magdalenaphotography.co.uk and unfortunately I didn’t receive any email about freeing my email address. Please could you help as this is very important for me. I don’t use the first account at all (magdalenaphotography.wordpress.com) but have just launched magdalenaphotography.co.uk and want to associate it with the right email address.

  similar to this….I let my domain name expire and now would like to pick it up again…however….i am unable to use the email address linked to the domain name hipsaremysterious….trying to purchase domain again and the registration form won’t let me use this email address or domain name even tho I have been emailed a WordPress response stating the domain name is free.

  Hi Magdalena,

  I took a look at magdalenaphotography.co.uk, and I see that it is a self-hosted WordPress site. Your login information here at WordPress.com is completely separate from your self-hosted WordPress login information, so you can use the same email address in both places if you’d like. (You can read more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org)

  If you still want to change the email address on your WordPress.com account, you can do that from your account settings page here: https://wordpress.com/settings/account/

  Hi Rachel,

  Thank you very much for your message, that is very helpful. What I don’t understand is, that I changed the email address on WordPress.com into a different one so technically the first one should be free now. But when I type it into my self-hosted WordPress site, I got the error message saying: This email is already registered, please choose another one.
  I am a bit confused now.

  Hi Magdalena,

  The email address you use on WordPress.com is totally separate from any login information on your self-hosted WordPress site, so freeing up your email address here at WordPress.com only makes a difference for other WordPress.com accounts. It won’t change whether or not the email address is free on your self-hosted WordPress site.

  If you’re getting that message on your self-hosted WordPress site, that means you already used that email address for an account there. You can try resetting your password for that email address on your self-hosted WordPress site, to regain access to that account.
