I wanted to back up my tumblr posts but realized my blog was too big and I didn’t have enough space on a free WordPress account, so I’d like to have it all cleared out so I can just pick and choose what to repost on here.

I’ll be happy to clear out your WordPress.com site, but I do need to confirm you understand this is irreversible – this will remove absolutely all content and media files from the site with no way to get them back should you later change your mind.

As for picking and choosing what’s imported, it will import everything on the tumblr blog. So you could delete some items there first, or upgrade here first, import everything, then delete the items you don’t want, then downgrade to whatever plan fits best.
Just note, if you delete an image from the media library, it will show up as a broken image in any posts that contain it, unless you edit or delete those posts as well.
