Plugin Update Emails showing incorrect site has been updated

I receive regular emails from wordpress confirming when plugins were automatically updated. For some weeks now, the site quoted as having been updated is not my website – instead it is lengthy mix of characters (hundreds), bearing no resemblance to my domain.
Can anyone explain what this is all about?
