Hi there,
New WordPress.com sites are automatically set to private, and only becomes visible to other people once you launch it. This private site option is a WordPress.com-specific feature, and not available for sites using the stand-alone version of WordPress.
When you install a plugin, we automatically convert your site to the regular version of WordPress behind the scenes, meaning the private option won’t exist any more on your site. For this reason you need to launch a site and make it public before you can go through this process.
If you don’t want people to see your site while you work on it, you can use a maintenance mode plugin to hide it instead at that point.
Also note that your Business Plan comes with 24/7 live chat and priority email support, so you don’t need to post for help and wait for an answer in our public forums. You can reach private support at any time via the help icon bottom-right on all the My Site pages, or via the direct link at https://wordpress.com/help/contact
You also have a free session with one of our support team included in your plan, where they can walk you through the process of launching your site, installing plugins, and answer any questions you might have:
