Plugins not working

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello!

The site I’m working on tells me that “my plan” is the premium ($10/m) plan and that it is active for the site I’m currently working on. However, whenever I look to install plugins, it tells me “This plan was purchased by a different wordpress.com account. To manage this plan, log in to that account or contact the account owner.”

Does this mean that, despite me being an administrator for the site, I don’t have access to the premium plan’s features until the account owner grants me permission?

Let me know what the best plan of action is, as I have a few tweaks I need to make but it won’t allow me to install any plugins!

    Cheers,
    Frank

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • You’ll need a paid Business or eCommerce plan to add plugins: https://wordpress.com/support/plugins/adding-plugins/

The reason you see that error is because the plan is owned by a different WordPress.com user, so only that user can upgrade the plan.

    Hey Mac,

Apologies on my end. I meant to write “we have a business plan”…not premium. It tells us that the business plan is active on the site I’m working on but I still get that pop-up saying that I cannot access any plugins. Must the wordpress.com plan owner grant my account permission? I’m still quite confused as to why it won’t let me access these features. – Frank

  • The site you listed has a Premium plan, not a Business plan.

Were you referring to a different site?

Sorry. In my initial post I meant to say business…not premium. A mistake on my end.

But with it being business, I still cannot access any plugins and I receive a pop-up saying, “This plan was purchased by a different wordpress.com account. To manage this plan, log in to that account or contact the account owner.”

Want to know why that is? – Frank

    Thanks Mac!

Another question for you. I recently installed the Content Views plugin and want each of the pages and categories on my menu bar to display a post grid when clicked on. I understand how to activate the post grid with my pages, but how do I do so for all my categories?

My website is very blog-centric (with a bunch of articles corresponding to different categories) How do I make it so that when a user clicks on my “policy & government” category on the menu, all the articles responding to that category will appear in a post grid format?

Hopefully I explained myself well enough here.

    Thanks,
    Frank

  • Hey Frank! I see you’ve added a Business Plan with the other account. If you’re logged in as the plan owner you’ll get direct access to chat based support, if you’re interested in that. Are you able to use that login?

Regarding grid-based category pages, your particular theme is designed to show one post after another on archive pages. You could create a child theme if you wanted to, but I think perhaps another theme might suite you well.

Tortuga has a 2x grid on category pages, with excerpts. Baskerville has 3x with a mosaic effect — and it can be configure to just show excerpts. I’d probably recommend one of those two, since they can show an excerpt with your information and since they’re somewhat similar to the look and feel you’ve established already — it wouldn’t be so difficult to swap out images and colors and what not. With many of these, you can use a “try and customize” option under the ••• menu to see what it would look like, and you can click through to category pages in the customizer.

Want to give that a go?

Thank you so much! Didn’t know a simple theme change would fix the problem. Have a nice day :)

  • I’m glad you got that fixed!
Also, remember that with your plan, you can access Live Chat directly via https://wordpress.com/help/contact. That way, you can get help faster.
