Pop-up ads and spams on my website

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello.

There have been random pop-up ads and spams when some people visited my website (The ‘Congratulation’ scam and the nude photos pop-ups). The pop-ups don’t show on my phone or laptop, so I’m assuming that it either only shows up randomly or to new visitors. I tried updating my WordPress just in case it helps, but because I can’t see these pop-ups on my devices, I don’t know how to check if my website is fixed?

Please help explain how to get rid of these pop-up ads (and how to check if my website is all cleared). Also how do I prevent it from coming back in the future.

My head is spinning. Much appreciated to those who can help.

    Sun N.

    Hi Startmees,

    My URL is http://www.fikaedge.com.au

    Thank you so much!

  • Hi there,

Your site is not hosted on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at another hosting provider. We’re only able to help with sites hosted on our servers at WordPress.com.

Support for the version of WordPress you’re using is provided by the WordPress.org community at https://wordpress.org/support/forums

That said, I don’t see any pop-ups on your site, so it’s not something that only happens to new visitors, and it’s unlikely this is being caused by a plugin.

The more likely explanation is that this is caused by malware in the browsers of the people actually seeing this. So they need to run malware scans on their computers, and review their browser toolbars and extensions for anything they don’t remember installing (for good measure they should just delete anything they don’t actually use).
