Portfolio Items Not Registering for Chosen Display

Hello!
I hope all is well. I have created two new portfolio items, and would like to display them on the home page; I clicked the ‘+’ by the portfolio item names, under the ‘Portforlio items’ tab on the Home Page edit page, but the items don’t shift to the adjacent box, which shows displayed portfolio items. Am I missing a step or anything? Featured images are set up for the two portfolio items I would like to display.
