Portfolio style menu that opens blog posts for different categories.

I’m trying to set my website up so that i can click on one menu item (Well-Being in this instance) so that it will open a page that displays three Sub-menus (Mind, Body, Spirit), each with a title and a photo. I would then like to be able to click on a sub-menu (Body we’ll say) to open up a blogroll which displays all blogs tagged with ‘body’.

I have tried using menus, categories and projects to do this but I’m in a bit of a muddle now.

Could anyone lend a hand? I have duplicate title pages and links all over the place but still no result. I think i have quite possibly not understood when to use what kind of item and created something of a mess.

Sorry for being a noob guys and thanks in advance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

Your primary menu item “Well-Being” already links to the category page of that title. The URL is https://nimbleones.wordpress.com/category/well-being/. You also have subcategory pages such as https://nimbleones.wordpress.com/category/well-being/mind/, and “Body.”

That’s a good start. Here’s how to complete the task:

    1. Add one or more of your categories to each post. Presently there are none assigned to the subcategory “Body,” for example. However, the corresponding subcategory (archives) page does include the one post in the parent category “Well-Being.”

    2. Add each category and subcategory to the custom menu, nesting subcategory menu items beneath the parent category items. The process by which this is done is less than satisfactorily outlined in the Custom Menus support page as follows:

You will also see the option to Move Item to Children, which will create a nested sub-menu on your site. On the Primary Menu for many themes, nesting pages like this will create a drop-down menu.

Thank you for the response. I have set up my categories in the way you suggested but i am still having problems :(
The Well-Being menu displays all posts tagged with “Well-Being” whereas, I really only want it to show the three child menus (Mind, Body, Spirit).
Those portfolio style links do not link to the blogs assigned to them.
If i click on the category “Body”, it will take me to a blogroll which has two posts. If i click on the portfolio style “Body” link it takes me to an empty page.

So i guess what i should really ask is – Do you know how to make the portfolio links (mind, body, spirit) connect to their corresponding categories?
And, do you know how to make the Well being menu only show the mind, body, spirit portfolio links?

Thank you again for your time, i do very much appreciate it. Hope you have a good day

The Well-Being menu displays all posts tagged with “Well-Being” whereas, I really only want it to show the three child menus (Mind, Body, Spirit).

I’m not sure what you mean by this. Hovering over the “Well-Being” parent menu item reveals a drop-down menu consisting of three children. Do you mean that the “Well-Being” category page displays all posts tagged with “Well-Being?”

However, both the “Well-Being” category page and the subcategory pages are now incorrectly formed. The menu items correctly linked to category pages the first time I visited your site. The menu items you have created for category and subcategory pages have greatly overcomplicated the relationships between these pages, and the overall structure of the menu.

    Examples:

    1. The “Well-Being” category menu item has the URL https://nimbleones.wordpress.com/category/home/catagories/well-being/. That mean “Home” is the parent category, “categories” is the child, and “Well-Being” is the grandchild. The URL of the “Well-Being” category page should be simply https://nimbleones.wordpress.com/category/well-being/.

    2. The subcategory menu item “Body” has the URL https://nimbleones.wordpress.com/category/home/catagories/well-being/body/. Here, “Body” is a great grandchild of “Home.” The URL of the “Body” subcategory page should be https://nimbleones.wordpress.com/category/well-being/body/.

Those portfolio style links do not link to the blogs assigned to them.
If i click on the category “Body”, it will take me to a blogroll which has two posts. If i click on the portfolio style “Body” link it takes me to an empty page.

Portfolios don’t display posts, they display portfolio projects. More precisely, the images and titles in a portfolio link to portfolio projects. So the URL https://nimbleones.wordpress.com/portfolio/body/ is that of a project titled “Body.” It has nothing to do with the category of the same name, and will not display any posts.

See the Portfolios support page to get a better understanding about what a portfolio is, and how to use it.

There are themes with grid-based or tiled posts page formats, where the images of the grid or tile rows link to posts. Illustratr is not among theme. Themes of this kind include:

Wow, i have got myself into a right mess.
I really appreciate your time and effort, sincerely. I’m going to go in and gut my site a little, thanks to your insight, i think i can sort this mess out.

I can’t believe you even researched which themes will suit my needs. You are very kind. Thank you

You’re very welcome. Let us know if you run into any difficulties while revising your categories hierarchy and the menu. Hint: “home” and “categories” shouldn’t be in your categories hierarchy.

I can’t believe you even researched which themes will suit my needs.

I’d already assembled the list of themes months ago. This part of my previous post was mainly copy and paste.

Pah, you’re too modest! Whether you assembled the list months ago or just now, you still used your time and expertise for the benefit of another & I owe you a massive thanks. It would have taken me many hours figuring out what to you probably seems easy. I therefore am in debt to the time you have invested in learning wordpress and also explaining it to me.
Take care musicdoc1, may good things come your way x
